Glow Plug question

Hi, I have a NH L218, 900 hours, 2014 year. It has the Shibaura 844 engine. I was servicing the whole machine and decided to check the glow plugs. I pulled them and bought new ones from CNH. The new plugs are shorter than ones I pulled out. About 1 3/8" longer. The plugs I bought are correct. The ones in it were NGK so I searched and they were all in the correct part number packaging. The previous owner had dealers always service it. He said it was always hard starting when new. He also said that the dealer told him they just had high compression. Anyway, looking at the new plugs, 3 are NGK and one is a CAT branded one. Apparently when CNH phased out the NGK, they replaced it with CAT ones? All the bags were sealed from the factory. Can I safely put the CAT with the others or will it cause an issue? Please give me some insight. I live in the boonies so I have order everything. My machine is torn apart and I hate to have it down so long. I'm in the UP of Michigan and I need it to push snow.

I’ve mixed different glow plug brands before without any issues, as long as the part numbers and specs matched up. Honestly, I’d be more concerned about the length difference than the brand logo. If CNH has replaced NGK with CAT, you should be good to go. Those UP winters can be brutal get it sorted out

If the CAT plug is the CNH replacement and it matches in voltage and reach, mixing it in shouldn’t cause any problems.
Dealers do this all the time. If you’re having hard starting issues since it was new,
it’s probably more about glow timing or compression rather than a brand mismatch.

I’m up here too, so I totally understand the snow panic. As long as that CAT plug is the updated CNH part, go ahead and use it. One odd plug won’t create any problems unless it’s the wrong length or voltage. I’d be more worried about those longer NGKs that the previous owner had in there.

Welcome aboard. We’re really happy you found your way to the forum. Hope we can get you pointed in the right direction and back to pushing snow soon.

Thank you for responding everyone. The only difference in the plug is the NGK says 11V and the CAT says 12V. I bought them from Rochester New Holland off of eBay. Nobody has responded to my questions yet from the dealer. Is this voltage difference a problem?

Just an update. After your advice, I was planning on using the CAT and NGK plugs. The dealer got back to me today. He said the delay was from him running the question up the pipe at CNH technical support. They have no issues of problems as long as the part numbers on the package were the same. You guys were right on. Nicest forum I've ever joined. Thank you much!

I’m so pleased to hear it all worked out! Really appreciate your kind words it’s wonderful to know that the advice from the forum was helpful.
