New Holland boomer 30 won’t start

My dad's been having a heck of a time with his old 2011 new holland boomer 30. It just died on him the other day, and he found the governor weights were completely trashed, so he got new ones and rebuilt it.

Now the crazy thing is, it won't start on its own. We've bled the fuel lines over and over, so we're pretty sure there's no air left in the system.
The weirdest part? If you put a little starting fluid in it, it fires right up and runs great, but as soon as the fluid is gone, it just dies again.

We're trying to save him a trip to the dealer. Any suggestions?

That sounds a lot like what happened with my uncle's Boomer 25 after he fixed it up. The fuel solenoid wasn't working right. It didn't open, so the tractor ran with starting fluid but wouldn't pull fuel by itself. You might want to check if the solenoid is getting power or try swapping it if you have another one. Also, see if the lift pump is pushing fuel well while cranking.

Just a heads up! If the timing on your injection pump got a little out of whack during the governor rebuild, you might run into trouble with fuel delivery at startup. It’s crazy how just a couple of degrees off can really mess with cold starts. Definitely worth double-checking.

It’s important to check the injector spray pattern, if the nozzles are clogged, they won’t atomize the fuel properly for those cold starts. Also, make sure the cranking RPM is adequate. A weak battery can hinder the fuel pressure buildup needed to maintain combustion after the starting fluid has burned off
