Troubleshooting slow lift or lower cycles in 3-point hitches

My T6's 3-point system has been getting slower and slower when lifting and lowering. It’s not completely dead, just feels like it’s taking its sweet time, almost like it’s pondering the task. It could be a flow issue, maybe a valve that's starting to fail, or perhaps there's some air in the system? What’s your go-to method for diagnosing slow hydraulic response before I dive into replacing pricey parts?

If it's hesitating instead of lifting, I’d stick to the basics, fluid, filter, and look for suction leaks then move on to pressure tests. A few small checks now can save you from expensive repairs down the line.

If the hydraulics are moving slowly, it usually means you’ve got dirty oil or trapped air.
I cycle the hitch, listen for any whining sounds, and keep an eye on the pressure when it’s idling versus when I rev it up.
It's a quick test that gives you a lot of information fast.

I experienced that last summer. It turned out to just be a half-clogged filter and a lazy valve spool. Always start with the inexpensive checks first, oil, filter, and linkage before you start taking anything apart.

The first thing I do is check the fluid level and filter, then crack a line to see if there’s any air in there. Most of the time, it turns out to be a simple fix before you have to dig into your wallet.
