PTO trouble with rotary cutter

I just got a New Holland TC30 for a great deal. The tractor runs fine, but I've run into a small problem.

The person who had it before mostly used it for mowing and said it worked well. But when I hooked up my rotary cutter, the rear PTO started spinning, then stopped right away. I checked the fluid and the lever, but it still won't stay on.

Has anyone had this happen with a TC30? I'm hoping it's something easy to fix!

Before you panic, check the simple stuff: fluid level and condition, linkage adjustment, and make sure the PTO shaft isn't binding. Sometimes it's just the lever not fully engaging. If all that checks out, then yeah, might be internal clutch.

It seems like the PTO clutch isn't engaging completely. You should take a look at the PTO solenoid and the wiring for the safety switch, sometimes they can be loose or corroded. Also, don't forget to check the seat switch, if it's not working properly, it might cut off the PTO power even when everything else appears to be good.

I'd first suspect an issue with the seat switch or wiring leading to it. Since the previous owner just mowed, the switch might have started failing or been improperly bypassed. Check the wiring harness under the seat and fender for any loose connections or damaged wires. I'd start ruling out those first since that's usually a simple fix!
