Saying goodbye to my old mower deck

After years of hauling through thick grass, mud, and everything in between, my New Holland mower deck was really starting to show its age. Blades dull, rust creeping in, and a few bent spots that just wouldn't straighten out, it was time to face reality and let it go. I've had this deck attached to my compact tractor for close to a decade. It's been through countless weekends mowing overgrown fields and helping me prep the property for fire season. Every scratch and dent tells a story, and it's hard not to feel a little sentimental saying goodbye.

Now I'm in the market for a replacement and looking for advice on options that will hold up just as well but maybe give me a bit of an upgrade in durability, appreciate the recos in advance
 
Ten years on a deck that's seen mud and brush? You got your money's worth. Don't expect miracles... any new deck will eventually bend and rust if you abuse it. Stick with OEM or Woods if you want proven durability, just don't think it'll be invincible.

It's always tough retiring a good piece of equipment that's served you well! Ten years is a great run, and it sounds like you really put that deck through its paces. And since you've proven your machine's durability, why don't you go with another OEM New Holland deck? They've made some improvements to the material and spindle design over the years. If you're looking for a serious upgrade, you might want to consider a commercial-grade deck or even a flail mower if your tractor can handle it.

if you want a significant upgrade in durability, look for a new deck with features like fabricated construction (not stamped), thicker steel gauge (like 7 or 10 gauge), also cast iron spindle housings.
For brands, check out the OEM options from New Holland, and also look into heavy duty aftermarket manufacturers like Woods Implements or Land Pride
 
I’d say go with Land Pride or Bush Hog if you want something that’ll handle abuse. Just make sure the PTO and mounting line up with your compact model so you’re not fighting adapter kits. And don’t toss the old one right away like you might want to strip a few parts off it for spares.
 
It's also a good idea to see if your tractor works with a rear discharge deck. This can help prevent clogs when you're cutting thick grass, and it makes cleanup easier, mostly when things are muddy.
