A $70K Tractor stopped by a 10-cent clip

At just 380 hours, the clutch cable pin clip on my tractor failed, the clutch spring dropped to the floor, and the pin was visibly worn. I replaced it with a bolt and lock nut but the cable bracket clip broke too, but the dealer only sells the entire cable, so for now, baling wire holds it. It's crazy that a $70,000 machine got stopped by junk hardware, unbelievable!

Honestly, just talk to the salesperson about it. Sometimes they can fix things without charging you extra. When my Deere's gear shift lever broke, I called the guy I bought it from, told him I wasn't happy, and they sent a tech out from miles away to fix it. Didn't cost me a dime.

Yeah, that's the kind of nonsense that makes your blood boil, you'd think at that price point they'd use hardware that isn't made of cheese, smart move rigging it with a bolt and baling wire for now by the way, its probably stronger than what it came with

That's a bummer! Wear on pins and clips can happen faster than expected if the metal is soft or if there is slight misalignment causing extra movement. Once one piece gives way the added strain can quickly break the next. You can temporarily use baling wire. But I highly recommend getting a clip from a local machine shop or hardware supplier. You can also fabricate a stronger one.

you know, your fix with the bolt and lock nut is probably more reliable and robust than the original pin and clip anyway.
It's crazy that they design a critical system like a clutch cable with such a flimsy part, and even crazier that they won't sell just the clip. Your jury rigged fix might be the best long term solution.
Sometimes the best engineering is done in a barn with what you have on hand
