I just got an old tractor from my neighbor, but I'm struggling to figure out what year it is or what model it might be based on the serial number. I've looked through manuals and done some searches online, but came up empty. If anyone has any advice on how to decode those numbers or knows a good place to find trustworthy info, I'd be super grateful

You'll want to start by identifying the format of the serial number. New Holland serials often include codes for the manufacturing plant, year and month but the structure varies by model and production era.

You might get lucky checking Messick's parts website!
Try to search your serial number there, and then see what models match up in their diagrams.
I also suggest posting your full serial number here and any other number or information you find on the engine, transmission, or a metal data plate.
Maybe a member here would know how to identify it!
Good luck!

Another thing to look for is the numbers on the engine or other major components. Sometimes you'll find a different serial number or casting number on the engine block itself, which can help narrow down the year
